Veterans Day

Ohio Northern University offers sincere thanks and gratitude to our nation's veterans, and to the men and women who currently serve. Today, the University held a ceremony by the statue of Civil War veteran and ONU founder Henry Solomon Lehr to honor those who have given so much to protect us and ensure our way of life. To all the veterans who receive Northern Express, thank you for your service.

Tom Simmons HOF After presiding over the ONU Athletic Hall of Fame inductions at Homecoming for the past 16 years, ONU director of athletics Tom Simmons, BSBA '85, heard his name called by the Florida State League Hall of Fame Committee on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Simmons was honored alongside such baseball luminaries as Justin Verlander, Josh Beckett, Kirk Gibson, Frank Thomas and Kenny Lofton for his contributions as general manager of the Class A-Advanced Vero Beach Dodgers from 1987 to 1997, and the Mobile Bay Bears from 1998 to 1999. During his tenure with the Vero Beach Dodgers, he oversaw spring training for the Los Angeles Dodgers at historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
White Coat

The Raabe College of Pharmacy will conduct its annual Professional Commitment Ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m. During the annual Professional Commitment Ceremony, third-year pharmacy students receive their white coat from their pharmacist mentors - a symbol of this milestone in their journeys to become pharmacists.


The ONU Healthwise Outreach Program will conduct a health fair at the Kenton YMCA facility on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event, which is in conjunction with the Hardin County YMCA, is free and open to the public. Utilizing the ONU mobile rural preventive health service vehicle, ONU pharmacy students and staff will be on hand to provide glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings.

Rick Keyes, Meijer

ONU alumnus Richard Keyes, BSPh '92, was recently named president of retail giant Meijer. Keyes began his career at Meijer 26 years ago as store pharmacist in Columbus, Ohio. He most recently served as executive vice president of supply chain and manufacturing, a position he held since 2006. He also serves on the ONU Raabe College of Pharmacy Advisory Board.


The National Football League's Minnesota Vikings signed former ONU football standout Jason Trusnik, BA '06, to the team for the second half of the season. The Macedonia, Ohio, native has played in 109 career games with 24 starts, tallying 146 total tackles, 4 PDs, 4 FRs and 1 FF in his first eight NFL seasons. Trusnik will help the 6-2 Vikings as they make a push for a division title.

Holiday Spectacular at the Freed Center

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the 21st annual "ONU Holiday Spectacular" from Thursday, Nov. 19, to Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. In addition, there will be performances at the Civic and Convention Center in Lima, Ohio, on Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m.

Alisa Agozzino

Dr. Alisa Agozzino, assistant professor of public relations, received the Pearson Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology by the Association for Business Communication at its 2015 Annual International Conference. Agozzino is credited with creating one of the first social media curricula in the U.S., and for stressing responsible and ethical use of emerging technologies.

Lisa Robeson

Dr. Lisa Robeson, chair and professor of English, presented the paper "Literary Genre and Perceptions of War: Two Arthurian Case Studies" at a conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. The paper explains how teaching two works about King Arthur, Malory's Le Morte Darthur and Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, can help students consider the effects of war on society.
