May 30, 2008
Two Ohio Northern University pharmacy students are the recipients of 2008 American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) "Gateway to Research" Scholarships, each worth $5,000.

Rachael Waterson, a third-year pharmacy student from Benzonia, Mich., will work with Dr. Boyd Rorabaugh on a project titled "Differential Coupling of ?1 - Adrenergic Receptor Subtypes to Transactivation of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor."

Patrick Schmees, a third-year pharmacy student from Fairfield, Ohio, will collaborate with Dr. Amy Stockert on a project titled "The Reaction of Benzotriazole-1-acetonitrile with xanthine oxidase."

The Gateway to Research scholarship program is designed to increase the number of students who undertake a faculty-mentored research program. The funds provided by the awards are designated for student stipends and material support through the upcoming academic school year.
