Accreditation

CAAHEP Accreditation

The Exercise Physiology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Ohio Northern's Exercise Physiology program is one of only 14 Midwest Universities with this distinctive accreditation and one of four Ohio schools. CAAHEP accreditation ensures Exercise Physiology majors will have met vigorous national standards established by professional organizations. CAAHEP accredidation ensures you will have all the knowledge, skills and assessments to be successful upon graduation.   The Exercise Physiology curriculum also  prepares you for the NSCA's (National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)) national certification exam.  These standards ensure you will receive the most up-to-date and pertinent curriculum.

CAATE Accreditation

ONU Athletic Training has been awarded a full 10-year Continuing Accreditation award by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education designated that the program has met all of the nationally-recognized Standards for Accreditation of Professional Athletic Training Programs.  This award resulted from a comprehensive evaluation of the Athletic Training Program including a self-study and on-site visit in February, 2013. ONU is one of 26 professional (entry level) programs accredited in the state of Ohio, and one of 350+ professional programs accredited nationally. ONU Athletic Training Program's next comprehensive review will occur during the 2022-2023 academic year.

ONU’s athletic training program strives to offer athletic training students the academic and professional services needed to become a certified athletic trainer.  We offer students a unique and comprehensive educational and clinical foundation relating to the profession of athletic training and strive to promote excellence through scholarship, skill and professionalism.

Once a student has been accepted to the athletic training program 'hands-on' athletic training clinical experiences must be completed, along with required coursework. Clinical experiences will be obtained in a variety of environments with athletic teams and at a local hospital or outpatient rehabilitation clinic.

During these times, athletic training students gain valuable knowledge and skills which will prepare them to successfully complete the athletic training curriculum and sit for the BOC Exam. The following table represents BOC exam aggregate data for the past 3 test cycles.  The ONU Athletic Training program has met or exceeded the national passing rate the past 12 years.
