Student Organizations - Student Investment Group
Begun in 1989, the Student Investment Group (SIG) is an "active" organization. It is open to sophomore/"rising" junior business majors who have a minimum GPA of 3.25. Formal membership is attained through a competitive selection process consisting of an analytical essay and interview. Current group members select the new members. The membership is "capped" at approximately 6 members (3 sophomores are selected each spring for a 2 year membership).
The members manage a portfolio and conduct ongoing, active analysis of securities using resources such as Value Line, Morningstar, etc. in order to produce buy/sell/hold actions. This activity provides an excellent opportunity for experiential learning in the finance area. Fieldtrips to financial organizations are also taken. The group has a portfolio of over $50,000 from which portions of the funds are allocated for scholarships.
