Student Juried Show Opens in Lima

Apr 23, 2008
The Ohio Northern University Department of Art and Design proudly announces the annual Student Juried Exhibition, which will be on display at ArtSpace/Lima's Loft Gallery from May 2-11 in Lima, Ohio.

A committee of sophomore art and design majors is responsible for organizing and presenting the show, traditionally the most popular gallery event of the academic year. This year's exhibition will feature original work in a variety of media: ceramics, oils and watercolors, photographs, graphic design, drawings, sculpture, mixed media, and printmaking.

All ONU undergraduates are invited to compete for a spot in the exhibition. Any work created for an art and design departmental class is eligible for consideration. Submissions fall into three categories: two-dimensional, three-dimensional and graphic design. Invited jurors review the submitted entries and make the final selections. This year's jurors are Jason Sumner, a 1995 ONU graduate and owner of Sumner Graphics in Lima, Ohio, and Sean McConnor, associate professor at Thiel College in Pennsylvania.

"The exhibition provides students with the valuable experience of showing their work within a professional setting," said Melissa Eddings, Ohio Northern's gallery director and faculty advisor to the sophomore student committee. "This is the first time the juried show has been held at ArtSpace in Lima, which provides a great opportunity to view works by the students."

A public reception and an awards presentation will be held on Friday, May 2, at 6 p.m. at ArtSpace, a regional arts education center that promotes the arts through exhibitions, art education opportunities, arts and music events, an arts resource library, community interaction and regional arts leadership.

Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public. ArtSpace is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For additional information about the arts exhibition season, contact the department of art and design at (419) 772-2160.
