Earth Week

Apr 15, 2008
In celebration of Earth Day, Ohio Northern Environmentalists, the Biological Student Association (BSA), and ONU Recycles (the Ohio Northern recycling program) present a week of environmental awareness beginning Monday, April 21, and lasting through Saturday, April 26.

The celebration kicks off with a visit from a Columbus Zoo zookeeper on Monday, April 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the McIntosh Center main lobby. The visit will bring a variety of animals to ONU, giving spectators a chance to learn how changes in the environment affect animals and their habitats.

On Tuesday, April 22, ONU Recycles will sponsor a Cardboard Maze Extravaganza from 8 to 11 p.m. in the McIntosh Activities Room. The maze, created entirely from cardboard, will visually represent the importance of recycling.

Ohio Northern Environmentalists will show episodes of "Captain Planet" (an educational animated television series that promotes environmental responsibility), followed by a question-and-answer session, on Thursday, April 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the English Chapel.

The week culminates with the Earth Week Party on Saturday, April 26, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Armory Bar and Grille. The party will feature a Battle of the Bands, including performances by Jimmy Caves and the Spelunkers, Casual Friday, and Adam Fleming.

Earth Day will be celebrated throughout the world on Tuesday, April 22. The first ONU Earth Week took place in 2003.
