The Department of History, Politics and Justice offers two co-curricular activities: Mock Trial and Model United Nations. Both activities can be taken for 1-4 credit hours. Each course may be repeated up to 12 credit hours, but only a maximum of 4 credit hours can count toward major or minor requirements.

Mock Trial

Ohio Northern's Mock Trial team is a member of the American Mock Trial Association. The course is offered during the Fall and Winter quarters. The competition teaches preparation of both civil and criminal cases - alternating by year - including opening and closing arguments, direct and cross examination of witnesses, and objections. Mock Trial prepares students to participate in both regional and national mock trial competitions. The annual Mock Trial Championship Tournament is held in Des Moines, Iowa in the early Spring.

Model United Nations

The ONU Model United Nations delegation participates in the National Model United Nations conference, the largest university-level simulation of the United Nations. The course is offered during the Winter and Spring quarters. Classroom and lab exercises involve an integrated and serious simulation of many aspects of the United Nations. Students prepare to participate in the National Model United Nations in New York City.
