ONU Dance Company Presents 'Glitz and Glamour'

The Ohio Northern University Dance Company will present "Glitz and Glamour: Dance and Music from the '30s to the '50s" on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. There also will be a pre-show discussion at 7:15 p.m.

The ONU Dance Company and six guest choreographers bring the glitz and glamour of the 1930s, '40s and '50s to the stage with a combination of jazz, tap, swing and modern dance pieces. Vocal and instrumental performances will include music by familiar favorites like George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter.

Student vocalists include Rose Emrich, senior literature major from Painesville, Ohio; Patrick Mullen, sophomore communication arts major from Tiffin, Ohio; Chrissy Wenning, junior communication arts major from St. Marys, Ohio; Rachael Welsh, freshman communication arts major from New Galilee, Pa.; Marceline Dyer, senior communication arts major from Andrews, Ind.; Jarod Patton, senior electrical engineering major from Waynesville, Ohio; Chris Chiles, junior communication arts major from St. Marys, Ohio; Cassie Rea, freshman communication arts major from Westerville, Ohio; Kenley Monson, senior communication arts major from Powell, Ohio; and Valerie Witherspoon, sophomore communication arts major from Hudson, Ohio.

Noted guest choreographers include Bill Evans, Julie Cartier, Javier Cordoba, Joshua Hilberman, Veronica Rocco and Jeff Shade.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and students and $9 for children. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling (419) 772-1900.
