Twelfth Annual ONU Holiday Spectacular

The Ohio Northern University Departments of Theatre and Music present the 12th annual ONU Holiday Spectacular at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. The show will also be presented at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center in Lima on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2:00 p.m.

The ONU Holiday Spectacular has “officially” ushered in the holiday season in the area for the past 11 years. Adults and children alike will enjoy the toy soldiers, ballerinas, Santa and the lovely songs of the season, with lavish sets and costumes to complete this heartwarming experience.

A number of exciting changes have been made to this year’s spectacular. The beloved Frosty the Snowman number has been brought back after a brief hiatus. A cast of 47 students and area children will perform on stage, along with a 22-piece orchestra. Some 20 students work backstage to ensure the smooth implementation of the production.

Last year, more than 7,200 people attended the seven performances and some 59,000 people have attended the show since it began in 1995.

Harry and Myrna Shutt and Kewpee Hamburgers have generously underwritten the Holiday Spectacular since its inception. The Shutts have always believed that there should be a holiday show that is affordable for all families; therefore, the price for the Lima performances has never changed. The DeBow and Catherine Freed Endowment for the Arts also underwrites this year’s production.

Tickets for the Freed Center performances are reserved and are $15 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens, and $9 for children 12 and under. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling (419) 772-1900.

All tickets for the Lima performances at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center are $5 and is open seating. Tickets for the Lima performances are on sale at all Kewpee locations and at the Freed Center.
