Chemistry article to be published
Two faculty members and two students in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry have authored an article in the Journal of Chemical Education. The article, "Synthesis and Metalation of a Ligand: An Interdisciplinary Laboratory Experiment for Second-Year Organic and Introductory Inorganic Chemistry Students," describes a series of laboratory experiments developed by Dr. Bradley Wile, assistant professor of chemistry, and Dr. Amelia Anderson-Wile, assistant professor of chemistry, over the last several years.
The students are Benjamin Kasting, a senior in chemistry from Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Andrew Bowser, a senior in chemistry from Farmersville, Ohio. These experiments make use of an innovative interdisciplinary approach to emphasize concepts related to the 2D and 3D representations of molecules, NMR spectrometry, and the coordination chemistry of metal complexes.
