DiPietro Mager presents study
Natalie DiPietro Mager, associate professor of pharmacy practice, presented a talk, “Partnering with Pharmacists to Provide Preconception Care,” to the Ohio Infant Mortality Summit on Dec 4. The talk comes from her study of pharmacist-provided pre-natal and pre-conception care in Ohio. She has studied the issues of preconception care, and created a program that is currently in place in northeast Ohio in which pharmacists are providing education, and when applicable, prenatal vitamins and folic acid supplements, and counseling on drugs that are contra-indicted in pregnancy, to women who come to the pharmacy seeking a pregnancy testing kit. The project is underwritten by CareSource, the largest Medicaid managed care provider in Ohio. She has a grant submitted to the Community Pharmacy Foundation to expand that service to pre-conception care for women of child-bearing age who could benefit from similar education and services.
