Four to attend international convention

Four Ohio Northern students have been accepted to the Sigma Tau Delta International Convention, to be held in Albuquerque, N.M., in March, 2015.

Jessica Cogar, a senior in creative writing and literature from Madison, Ohio, will present a paper on the rhetoric of gender in contemporary television drama.

Antonio Joseph Ferraro, a senior creative writing and philosophy double-major from Franklin, Ohio, will present a paper on the novelist Don DeLillo.

Kelly Hozan, a senior language arts education major from Homerville, Ohio, will present a paper on Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs. Dalloway.”

Ivy Keller, a senior in creative writing and professional writing from Bellevue, Ohio, will read selections from her senior capstone collection, “Bitter Greens.”

Douglas Dowland, assistant professor of English and Sigma Tau Delta advisor, noted that acceptance to the conference is competitive. In addition to presenting papers and chairing panels, students will also hear keynote speeches by internationally acclaimed authors Gary Soto, Simon Ortiz and Leslie Marmon Silko.

Ohio Northern will be the most represented of Ohio universities at the International Convention. Sigma Tau Delta is the international honors society for literary study, which promotes high achievement in language, writing, and literature studies.
