Dear ONU Family,
Wow! Once again we are reminded how special it is to be part of the extended ONU family! We are simply overwhelmed and appreciative of the ONU groups and individuals who participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge physically and financially. We know the names of some of the groups and some of the individuals, but not all. Thus, the necessity of this public acknowledgement of our gratitude for your support.
We cannot hope to convey to you what all this Ice Bucket Challenge phenomena means to those of us battling this evil disease. It has filled us with hope. Our spirits have been buoyed because of the amount of awareness this simple effort has helped spread like wildfire. We are confident that more people are aware of what this disease does to individuals and families than ever in history.
Words alone are not enough, but they are all we have to offer you: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Bill Croy, BA ’71, ONU Life Trustee, member of the ONU Athletic Hall of Fame, and United Methodist minister, has been battling ALS since 2010. As part of that battle, Croy and his supporters, “Bill’s Backers,” have been raising money and awareness for the ALS Association through fundraising walks, a golf outing and most recently the Ice Bucket Challenge. The photo at left was taken in July 2012, when Croy threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Cincinnati Reds game on ALS Awareness Day.
