ONU students present at ASPB annual meeting
Ohio Northern students, faculty and a recent graduate represented the University at the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB ) annual meeting held in Portland, Ore, July 12-16, 2014.
Colleen Baker, BS ’14, from Hilliard, Ohio, and Keaton Morris a senior biology major from Westerville, Ohio, were invited presenters at the ASPB education booth. They presented lessons from their project “Roots Leaves and STEM: Cultivating Seeds of Science using a Botany Curriculum for After School Enrichment,” which was supported by an ASPB grant to Drs. Linda Young and Vicki Motz. They also presented this as a poster during two poster sessions.
Elizabeth Lendrum, a senior in biology from Shreve, Ohio, presented her poison ivy research, “A Rash Concept: Jewelweed Saponins Act As Effective Agents in Preventing Poison Ivy Contact Dermatitis,” authored by Elizabeth Lendrum and Alexander Kneubehl, Vicki A Motz, Christopher P Bowers, Linda M Young and David H Kinder, at two poster sessions. Vicki Motz, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of biological sciences, accompanied the ONU delegation.
