Law commencement ceremony May 18
ONU’s Pettit College of Law will celebrate its 2014 commencement ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. Benjamin Brafman, a 1974 ONU graduate of the Pettit College of Law and principal partner of Brafman & Associates P.C. in New York City, will deliver the commencement address.
Nation’s first Bachelor of Science in engineering education degree awarded
ONU awarded the nation’s first Bachelor of Science in engineering education to Elizabeth Spingola, from Butler, Pa., during commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 11. Spingola, who will enter a Ph.D. program in engineering education at Virginia Tech following her graduation, is the first graduate from the ONU engineering education program, which was introduced in 2011.

Nutter named distinguished faculty advisor
Paul Nutter, associate professor of technology, has been named recipient of the distinguished faculty advisor award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He was recognized for his work with ONU’s student chapter S186. Last year Nutter also took part in a panel discussion on manufacturing education, academia and industry at the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) conference in New Orleans, La. Karn publishes article
Nicole M. Karn, assistant professor of chemistry, a co-author of an article published in February, 2014, issue of the prestigious journal, Chemical Science. The work is an investigation of the redox processes of transition metal complexes in their excited states. These types of complexes have applications in solar energy conversion. Specifically, Karn utilized femtosecond spectroscopy to investigate the photophysical processes that these complexes undergo in their excited states.

Summer orientations begin June 13
Orientation sessions for incoming ONU students will be June 13, 20 or 27. Orientation is a chance for new students and their parents to schedule fall classes, learn about student support services and have a photo ID taken.
