Ohio Northern University to celebrate undergraduate, pharmacy commencement ceremonies
Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2014 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony and the Raabe College of Pharmacy Commencement in the Sports Center on Sunday, May 11. The pharmacy ceremony will commence at 9 a.m. followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m. Mark Butler, retired Air Force officer and former pharmacy consultant to the surgeon general and associate chief for pharmacy, will be the pharmacy commencement speaker. Elizabeth Broun, the Margaret and Terry Stent director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, will serve as the undergraduate commencement speaker.
Grafik Intervention coming May 9
Ohio Northern University will host a Grafik Intervention program at Ada’s historic Pennsylvania Railroad Depot on Friday, May 9, at 9 p.m. In addition, an exhibit will highlight the history and significance of the depot beginning at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
ONU captures fourth at Human Powered Vehicle Challenge
The ONU chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) captured fourth place at the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) East competition at the University of Central Florida April 11-13.

Clingerman publishes article
Forrest Clingerman, associate professor of religion and philosophy, and Kevin J. O'Brien, Pacific Lutheran University, are authors of “Playing God: Why Religion Belongs in the Climate Engineering Debate,” published in the May/June issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
Keller presents paper
Deidre Keller, associate professor of law, presented a paper, “Property and Persons: Some Preliminary Thoughts on Inherent Inalienability,” at the annual conference of the Association of Law Property and Society. This was the fifth annual conference of ALPS, held at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and attended by scholars from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, Germany and South Africa.
Elizabeth Cozad, lecturer in the Theatre Arts Department and dance adjunct, has received an award from the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs for her choreography and collaboration on the work El Camino Real. This work was performed at the 20th Anniversary of Dance Concert in February, and again later in the month with live music provided by ONU students under the direction of Tom Hunt.

Spingola receives Catherine Freed Leadership Award
Elizabeth Spingola, a 2014 candidate for graduation in engineering education from Butler, Pa., was honored with the 2014 Catherine Freed Leadership Award at Ohio Northern University on May 1. The award, named for former University First Lady Catherine Freed, recognizes the outstanding female leader on campus.
New honorary AED comes to ONU ONU is home to the newest chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), which recognizes scholarship, leadership and service in future healthcare providers. The Ohio Mu Chapter became the 223rd chapter in the U.S. and 11th in Ohio when it was initiated on ONU Honors Day, April. 25.
President's Leadership Dessert honors students
The annual President’s Leadership Dessert, celebrating ONU student leaders and their accomplishments, presented awards to individuals and organizations on April. 30. The Debow Freed Award for Outstanding Student Leadership was presented to one male and one female from each undergraduate class. Students
Kewpee capstone: It’s all about the hamburgers
Making hamburger patties sounds more like a cookout than an engineering capstone project. For Austin Conley, Andrea Masters and Lauren Poll, graduating mechanical engineering students, it was both a capstone and a chance to bring updated mechanicals to Lima’s iconic Kewpee Hamburgers. Students publish poems
Several creative writing majors have had poems published by literary journals during this academic year. They include junior Lucas Campbell, junior Jessica Cogar and freshman Rachel Cruea.
Parent Advisory Council meets
The Ohio Northern Parent Advisory Council met May 3 with 16 ONU “Polar Parents” attending. Participants heard from ONU President Dan DiBiasio, Executive Director of Communications and Marketing Amy Prigge, Director of Residence Life Justin Courtney and Assistant Professor of Communication Arts Dr. Alisa Agozzino.
