Ohio Norther’s T.J. Smull College of Engineering honored Harold Marker and Jack Ridge with Distinguished Alumni Awards on Feb. 26.
A cappella group ‘Take 6,’ March 15
ONU’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the award-winning a cappella group Take 6 on Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. Take 6, the most awarded a cappella group in history, with 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award, two NAACP Image Award nominations and more, knows no musical bounds.
Mathematics paper published
Khristo Boyadzhiev, professor of mathematics, has published a paper titled "Power series with skew-harmonic numbers, dilogarithms, and double integrals" in the specialized journal Tatra Mountain Mathematics Publications, volume 56. This volume is dedicated to Number Theory. The paper presents new results about harmonic numbers and functions related to the logarithmic function.
Darrin W. Snyder Belousek, lecturer in philosophy and religion, is author of an article, "Health Care, Natural Law, and the American Commons: Locke and Libertarianism," published in the Fall 2013 issue of the Journal of Markets and Morality (Vol. 16, No. 2, 463-486).
Wile contributes to textbooks
Brad Wile, assistant professor of chemistry, is a contributor for the two-volume instructor solutions manual and one-volume student solutions manual for Chemistry: The Science in Context, 4th Ed. by Gilbert, T.R.; Kirss, R.V.; Foster, N.F.; and Davies, G. (W.W. Norton & Co.). His work involved drawing initial correlations for third to fourth edition problems, as well as authoring, compiling, and compositing solutions to all end-of-chapter problems in the general chemistry textbook. These volumes will be available for purchase by faculty and students enrolled in general chemistry courses nationwide starting in April, 2014. Research on memory and stress published
Research on memory and stress, conducted by Phillip Zoladz, assistant professor of psychology and his team, is the basis of two recently published articles.
Liddick receives scholarship to national conference
Anne Liddick, a junior in international theatre production from Greenville, Ind., is the 2013 United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Ohio Valley National Conference scholarship winner. She is the first ONU student selected for this award. The award will help pay her way to the national conference in Fort Worth, Texas, March 26-30. She will write about her experiences at the conference to promote attendance by other theatre students.
The Moon in Taurus
The ONU Observatory will be open from 8 to 10 p.m., Friday, March 7, for “The Moon in Taurus.” The observatory’s telescopes will be turned on the Moon and Jupiter plus the Orion Nebula and he Pleiades star cluster. Check the observatory's web page in case of inclement weather.
