John Bishop to be inducted into OFIC Hall of Excellence John J. Bishop, a 1972 Ohio Northern University graduate and chairman of the board of The Motorists Insurance Group, was selected as a 2014 inductee into the Ohio Foundation of Independent College Hall of Excellence. Bishop was among four selected for the Hall and will be formally inducted at the “Evening of Excellence” on April 16 at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Columbus, Ohio.

‘The Things They Carried’ The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 9:30 a.m. A pre- and post-show interactive discussion will be held, during which audience members can explore themes such as ethics, making choices and violence. The content of the performance is appropriate for high school audiences and older.
Baby Boomers Comedy Show ONU’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “Baby Boomers Comedy Show: Clean Comedy for People Born Before Seatbelts, Safety Helmets and Facebook” on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. In this hilarious 90-minute theatre event, veteran comedians Jan McInnis and Kent Rader hit all the familiar topics baby boomers are dealing with – family, kids, work, do-it-yourself projects, dieting, aging and all – and they do it with clean humor that’s been a hit at thousands of conventions.
Experience ONU Day Ohio Northern welcomes high school seniors to campus for Experience ONU Day on Monday, Feb. 17. Prospective students will learn about specific Ohio Northern programs; meet with current students, faculty and staff; and attend informational admissions and financial aid sessions. A complimentary lunch and campus tour also will be provided.
Keeping it clean in wrestling Ronald Beaschler, ONU wrestling coach and assistant professor of sports management, and Dr. Linda Young, professor of biological sciences, are quoted in an article on preventing skin infections among wrestlers featured in ThisWeek Sports.com. The article includes preliminary results of a study devised by Young to monitor pathogens at ONUs 12-team wrestling invitational.
Faculty recital to feature chamber music The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents an evening of chamber music in the Snyder Recital Hall in the Presser Building on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
LLM student to prosecute cases in Allen County Prosecutor’s Office Ezmarai Osmany, an Ohio Northern University LLM (Master of Laws) student who also is a former prosecutor in Afghanistan, will have the opportunity to prosecute in the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office after receiving special permission from the Ohio Supreme Court. Bruce French, ONU professor of law and director of clinical programs, helped spearhead the efforts to have Osmany prosecute cases and said that this is the first time anything like this has been done in the state of Ohio.
‘Drone Warfare: Legality, Morality, Utility’ Ohio Northern University’s Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Beta Delta, the ONU Department of History, Politics and Justice and CASE (Committee on the Arts and Special Events) present a forum on “Drone Welfare: Legality, Morality, Utility” in the Dicke Forum on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.
