ONU sets record with 94 percent placement The Polar Careers Office at ONU has announced a record 94 percent placement rate for students who graduated in 2013 according to its six-month assessment report. The new mark is up 2 percent from last year for those students who reported placement. Ninety-six percent of the class of 2013 participated in the placement report; this number is up 3 percent from last year and sets a new standard for ONU.
Nursing program accredited Ohio Northern’s baccalaureate degree program in nursing (BSN) has received a 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). To receive this distinction, the ONU program met four accreditation standards.
‘The Faces of Lee Harvey Oswald’ Author Scott Johnson will discuss his book, “The Faces of Lee Harvey Oswald: The Evolution of an Alleged Assassin,” in Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Ballroom on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The event, sponsored by ONU’s Department of History, Politics and Justice and ONU’s Cultural and Special Events committee (CASE), is free and open to the public. Holiday Spectacular begins Nov. 21 The 19th annual Holiday Spectacular will take to the stage of the Freed Center for the Performing Arts Thursday, Nov. 21, to Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. There will be a matinée performance on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. In addition, there will be performances at the Civic and Convention Center in Lima, Ohio, on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. The show is underwritten in part by the DeBow and Catherine Freed Endowment for the Arts and Kewpee Hamburger.
Forums scheduled Forums on University enrollment and finances are scheduled in December. The forum on enrollment is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 9, 9:30-11 a.m., and again at 2:30-4 p.m. in the McIntosh Ballroom. The presentation on University finances will be Tuesday, Dec. 10, 9:30-11 a.m. and again at 2:30-4p.m., also in the McIntosh Ballroom. The presentations are open to faculty and staff.
Healthy Horses encourage fitness The Healthy Lifestyles Coalition of Hardin County envisions a stable of Healthy Hobby Horses that can prance into community events and encourage children to be physically fit. ONU’s Kami Fox, assistant professor of nursing, and her mother are helping that happen by creating the customized horses for community sponsors.
Workshop deals with life-work balance LaShonda E. Gurley, M.S. Ed., ONU’s director of Multicultural Development Office and Aiesha L. Motley, M.Ed., associate director of operations for the Office of Multicultural Development at the University of Akron, presented “The Steps of a Good Woman are Ordered: Working Hard, Keeping Order, and Maintaining Balance in the Academy” at the American Council on Education (ACE) Women's Network-Ohio, Nov. 1, at Wright State University, Dayton.
MLK Essay Contest In honor of Dr. King’s birthday and the 50th Anniversary of his “I Have a Dream” speech, Ohio Northern University is sponsoring an essay contest. ONU undergraduate and graduate students and Ada high school students are invited to enter the competition.
PRSSA recognizes ONU at National Conference Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter received individual and chapter awards at the annual national PRSSA Conference in Philadelphia Oct. 25-29. ONU’s PRSSA chapter was awarded the Star Chapter Award and is one of only two schools to receive the award since its inception. The award was created to recognize PRSSA chapters that have outstanding programming and relationship-building opportunities for students.
Student recognized at PRSSA Convention Senior Lauren Stahl, a communication arts/public relations major from Belle Center, Ohio, was awarded third place for the Betsy Plank Scholarship at the Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA) National Conference in Philadelphia on Oct. 28.
Jupiter is back The ONU Astronomy Club will host an event from 9-11 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, at the ONU Observatory. The return of Jupiter to the night sky will allow participants to view he Galilean moons and the swirling cloud decks of Jupiter. Other solar system and deep sky objects such as Uranus and the Orion Nebula may also be visible. Check the website for weather cancellation information.
