Kremlin Chamber Orchestra, Oct. 10 ONU’s Department of Music presents the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. The concert will take place in the Snyder Recital Hall in Presser Hall and is free and open to the public.
Accounting Pilot and Bridge Project ONU’s Dicke College of Business Administration and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants are hosting a three-day training program on the Accounting Pilot and Bridge Project (APBP) from Oct. 13-15. Dan Deines, CPA, the KPMG Peat Marwick professor of accounting at Kansas State University, will oversee the three-day session on APBP for 20 Ohio high school teachers.
‘Ethics, Professionalism and Substance Abuse’ ONU’s Pettit College of Law will host a CLE on “Ethics, Professionalism and Substance Abuse” in the large moot courtroom on Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. The CLE will include three lectures from top professionals tackling different viewpoints on the topic. Speakers will include Dr. Manoranjan D’Souza, ONU assistant professor of pharmacology, Kevin Hill, ONU professor of law, and Mason Evans, director of Electronic Discovery Practice General Counsel for Interhack Corporation.
Four to join Athletic Hall of Fame Four members of the Ohio Northern University athletic family will be inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 18, as part of ONU’s Homecoming weekend. They are Dr. DeBow Freed, the ninth president of the University who served from 1979-99; Alisa Agozzino, a 2001 communication arts graduate and volleyball and track athlete from Attica, Ohio; Jesse Marlow, a 1983 economics major and track and basketball athlete from Mahomet, Ill., and Terri Krach, a 1988 management and marketing major and softball athlete from Rocky River, Ohio.
Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies Enjoy a special musical treat during ONU Homecoming as the ONU Symphony Orchestra presents Disney in Concert Magical Music from the Movies at 8:30 p.m., Oct. 19 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. RNA goes 3D Ryan Rahrig, assistant professor of statistics, and his co-authors have published a paper, "R3D Align web server for global nucleotide to nucleotide alignments of RNA 3D structures," in the journal, Nucleic Acids Research, volume 41, issue W1.
SMArts begins Oct. 26 ONU's Saturday Morning Arts (SMArts) program will meet Oct. 26, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9 from 9:30 a.m. until noon in the Wilson Art building. This art enrichment program is for third and fourth graders of any ONU employee as well as students in the immediate area. Artist Libby Pennington and ONU teacher candidates will be conducting the classes.
Estell on conference organizing committee John K. Estell, professor of computer science and computer engineering, has been named to the organizing committee for the conference, “The Future of MOOCs and Turbocharged Technologies in STEM Education,” to be held in June, 2014, at San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif.
Conference presentations Melanie Weaver, director of financial aid, and Jayme Jarrett, financial aid counselor, were presenters at the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAS) annual conference held Oct. 6 in Indianapolis, Ind. Jarrett presented two sessions on the benefits of social media and how financial aid offices can use it. Weaver presented a program on financial literacy for students and how to tailor it the students’ grade level.

Klondike’s Trick or Treat, Oct. 23 ONU students and the Residence Life apartment staff will host Klondike’s Trick or Treat on Oct. 23. The event starts at 5 p.m. with youngsters visiting the decorated residence halls for trick-or-treating, voting for their favorite carved pumpkin and ending with a light meal. Questions? Student honored for research paper Katee Johnson, a junior public relations major with a minor in political science from Arlington, Ohio, presented a research paper at the Ohio Communication Association (OCA) annual conference, Oct. 4-5, at Marietta College.
Music fraternity receives awards ONU’s Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Omicron, a national music fraternity, has been named recipient of national chapter awards for scholarship and publicity. The awards recognize the outstanding scholastic achievements of the membership and diligence of the officers.

Happy Birthday, McIntosh! McIntosh Center is celebrating its 50th birthday as the student union on campus! While the building itself has been added on to and remodeled several times, 2013 is the 50th anniversary of many of the major parts of the building. The ballroom, activities room and many offices in the building are celebrating a golden milestone. Throughout the week, there will be activities and contests on the McIntosh Center Facebook page as well as a birthday party Wednesday in the Dining Room. The week will culminate with the unveiling of the Deans' Heritage Room, formerly Conference Room 7, which will feature a wall with pictures of all the former Dean of Men, Dean of Women, and Dean of Students of ONU!
