Rebecca Yeh finishes in top five at Miss America pageant
ONU’s Rebecca Yeh, a third-year pharmacy student from Nisswa, Minn., finished as fourth runner-up in the 2014 Miss America pageant Sunday night in Atlantic City, N.J. This marks the second consecutive year that ONU has had one of its students represented in the Miss America pageant. Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present "Dancing at Lughnasa" from Thursday, Sept. 19, to Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. In addition, there will be two matinée performances: Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. "Dancing at Lughnasa" by Brian Friel is the extraordinary Irish drama that won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1992.
Entrepreneur workshop: ‘Marketing your product, success and failures’
The Community Economic Development Center (CEDC) at Ohio Northern University opens its 2013-14 entrepreneurship workshop series in the Dicke Forum on Thursday, Sept. 26. The topic of the workshop will be "Marketing your product, success and failures. Making the Milestone system work" with Dennis D. Stripe. This event is free and open to the public.
OhioDance Fall Festival and Conference
The 2013 OhioDance Fall Festival and Conference, “Dance Matters: The More You Know,” will be held at Ohio Northern University from Sept. 27-29. The three-day event is co-sponsored by ONU and OhioDance. The OhioDance Festival and Conference, an annual celebration of dance through master classes, workshops, discussions and performances, is expected to attract more than 200 individuals from the state of Ohio.
Panel to discuss ‘Crises in the Middle East’
Ohio Northern University’s Phi Beta Delta honorary society for international scholars presents “Crises in the Middle East: A Panel Discussion” in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Bill Robinson Field Dedication
ONU will dedicate the new artificial turf field in Dial-Roberson Stadium in honor of Bill Robinson, BSEd ’61, ACIT ’71, ACIT ’89, Hon. D. ’05, H of F ’05, on Saturday, Oct. 5. The dedication ceremony will take place at halftime of the ONU vs. Mount Union game and will continue with a post-game reception outside the stadium.
ONU receives Honor Award from Professional Grounds Management Society
ONU has received an Honor Award in the University and College Grounds category of the 2013 Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) Green Star Awards program. ONU will be recognized during the 2013 School of Grounds Management and GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky., from Oct. 23-26, 2013.

The Heterick Memorial Library introduces Search, a new way for the campus community to explore the library’s resources. Polar Careers assists Ada community
ONU’s Polar Careers team is sharing career-related information with the community through a program with the Ada Public Library. Presentations and individual assistance is available. The Polar Career team of Jane Ward, Nancy Sheely and Justin Courtney are providing the instruction. In addition, on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the team will be offering free assistance with resume writing and other career information at the VFW’s annual bean soup lunch and dinner.
Shoemaker graduates from Allen Lima Leadership program
Kristen Shoemaker, senior registrar specialist at ONU, will graduate from the Allen Lima Leadership (ALL) program on Thursday, Sept. 19. Shoemaker is the first ONU employee to graduate from this program and will be one of 30 graduates from ALL. There have been more than 675 graduates of the program in the past 25 years of existence.
Design professor to present at international
Brit Rowe, associate professor of art and design, has been selected to present at the 12th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jan. 10–13.

Student participates in Summer Research Academy at Texas A&M
Ohio Northern University senior John Curiel, a political science major from Crystal Lake, Ill., participated in a Summer Research Academy at Texas A&M University over the summer. Curiel was just one of 15 undergraduate students to be selected for the program, which is aimed at improving students’ chances of succeeding in competitive graduate programs as well as highly selective careers.
Chemical Society meeting
ONU students part of STEM in the Park
Five ONU Engineering Education students took part in STEM in the Park, held Sept. 7 at Bowling Green State University, to introduce engineering to K-12 students and their parents. Over 1,700 students from kindergarten to high school explored different aspects of engineering, math, biology, chemistry and many other topics presented at 65 different booths.
Accounting students participate in conference
ONU’s Mu Delta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAΨ) was honored with superior chapter status at the organization’s annual conference, Aug. 7-10 in Anaheim, Calif. Two ONU junior accounting students, Ashley Zoeller of Port Clinton, Ohio, and Matthew Joppeck from Wellington, Ohio, along with Matthew Phillips, assistant professor of accounting, attended.
