Making Microbiology Even Smaller

Vicki Motz, visiting assistant professor of biological sciences, and Linda Young, professor of biological sciences are authors of an article,” Making Microbiology even Smaller,” to be published in the October, 2013 issue of American Biology Teacher.

The article describes a user-friendly hands-on technique they devised which makes it possible to do small scale microbiology safely in a high school classroom. It reduces the risk of injury and reduces costs. The method involves color changes in media and different non pathogenic bacteria to teach about metabolism and microbiology.
