Long-time campus figure to be remembered at ONU memorial service

Ohio Northern University will host a memorial service for esteemed alumnus, Joseph Banks, BS '41, BA '46, on Friday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. in the English Chapel prior to the Hall of Fame banquet.

Banks enjoyed a highly successful career with the university as a coach/assistant professor and athletic trainer. He was Associate Director of Admissions from 1971-1984, and part-time admissions associate from 1985-2002. Banks was legendary for his humorous sayings and devotion to his alma mater. He was president of the ONU N-Man Association and a board member of the ONU Alumni Association. In addition to being named to the ONU Athletic Hall of Fame, Banks was a recipient of the ONU Alumni Association Service Award and was honored by having ONU's track and field invitational named after him. Banks and his wife, Thelma, also deceased, were recognized as ONU's No. 1 basketball fans. He died June 19, 2007.
