Ohio Northern University pharmacy student crowned Miss Minnesota
Ohio Northern University student Rebecca Yeh, a third-year pharmacy major from Nissawa, Minn., has been crowned Miss Minnesota 2013. Yeh represented the Detroit Lakes, Minn., area as Miss Northwest before being crowned Miss Minnesota 2013 at the Eden Prairie High School Performing Arts Center on June 15.
Yeh recently completed her second-year year at ONU, where she is preparing for a career as a clinical pharmacist. Accepted into the highly selective doctorate of pharmacy program, and appearing on the Dean’s List for the past two semesters, she is a “triple A” scholarship recipient (academics, arts and athletics) and an accomplished violinist.
At the Miss Minnesota competition, Yeh won not only the preliminary talent award, but also the preliminary swimsuit award and overall interview award. She has been a self-employed violin instructor since the age of 13 and performs regularly as a soloist, as a member of a string trio, and occasionally as part of a string quartet.
Yeh’s service platform is titled “A Voice for Autism,” which was inspired by her 22-year-old brother, Phil, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. As Miss Minnesota 2013, Yeh will speak and educate people about early detection and public awareness of this disorder, which affects 1.5 million individuals. She also will be the official spokesperson for Children’s Miracle Network and for the work they do in Minnesota.
The Miss Minnesota Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss America Pageant. Yeh will compete for the Miss America crown in Atlantic City, N.J., this September.
