Chicago Day Three: Networking Dinner
On Thursday, May 17th, recent graduates and current students from ONU along with ONU alumni, professors, and faculty had the opportunity to attend a networking dinner with employees from a variety of companies. This networking dinner, which took place at a Mexican restaurant, was an excellent occasion for students to interact with experts in different fields, such as healthcare, technology, and finance. Among other topics, these professionals provided advice for recent graduates on how to create clear objectives and how to work hard to achieve them. They also shared their own experiences at work and how they had attained all the goals that they had set up for themselves in order to become successful. By having the time and space to share our plans and expectations with these career people, we were able to increase our level of comfort interacting in a professional environment with people who possess more experience than we do.
In addition, participating in networking dinners is a form of entertainment that allows students to make connections that in the future could help them be better prepared for the job-seeking process or even land the job they desire. ONU students heard from these people how they had to work hard in order to achieve success. Although, they are successful in their professional lives, they had to overcome their weaknesses, develop new skills and constantly grow in their field of expertise because the key to being successful is to work hard to achieve our goals. The networking dinner was a great opportunity for students to meet employees with different personalities and leadership manners. They learned that in the workplace they will interact with people who have different points of view and most importantly that they need to develop an appreciation for interacting with different personalities. One way to achieve this is to attend several events like this.
