Chicago Day Two: Cook County Hospital
This Wednesday afternoon we had a meeting with Cook County Hospital's Chief of Business Operations, Anthony Rajkumar. Anthony had only been with the hospital system for 9 weeks. During our conversation with Anthony we learned a lot of information about his background and how he came to be in the healthcare industry. Before he took the job at Cook County Hospital he worked for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. He took the opportunity in Chicago because he knew that he could make a big impact and help improve the hospital. Cook County hospital is a public hospital that serves uninsured individuals and those that cannot afford services. Cook County hospital is also a number one trauma hospital and is overflowing with patients daily. Anthony was able to inform our group on how politics play a big role in public hospitals. For example, Provident hospital, located less than two miles from the Obama’s house, was kept open for political reasons. Overall, it was a great experience hearing about how Anthony has grown from where he started to where he is today.
