College of Law commencement is May 19
Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law will celebrate its 2013 commencement ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. Approximately 100 students will be awarded degrees, and Dr. Daniel DiBiasio, Ohio Northern University president, will preside.
ONU National Tour Choir on 38-day tour
The Ohio Northern National Tour Choir, made up of members of the ONU University Singers, is performing in 16 states over 38 days. The tour ends June 19 with a home concert at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts in Ada.
Boyadzhiev to be honored for paper
Khristo Boyadzhiev, Ph.D., professor of mathematics, will receive the Mathematical Association of America’s Carl B. Allendoerfer Award for his paper “Close Encounters with the Stirling Numbers of the Second Kind.” The article was published in Mathematics Magazine, Vol 85, No. 4, October 2012.
Chapter discusses ‘Imagination and Fallibility’
Forrest Clingerman, associate professor of religion, is author of a chapter, “Imagination and Fallibility,” in a new book, “Theological Reflection and the Pursuit of Ideals: Theology, Human Flourishing, and Freedom,” edited by David Jasper and Dale Wright (Ashgate, 2013).
Student receives Presser Scholar Award
ONU student Anna Sankovich, a junior music performance major from Bowling Green, Ohio, has been named a 2013 Presser Scholar Award recipient. As a Presser Scholar, Sankovich will receive a $4,400 grant. Extradisciplinary seminar has students singing
By their very nature, Ohio Northern University’s Extradisciplinary Seminar (EXDS) courses push students beyond their academic comfort zone, forcing them outside their major and placing emphasis on the process by which they learn, rather than the content they are being taught. Because they are required to enroll in these courses, students have their critical-thinking skills challenged and, perhaps, even learn a new way of learning.
Students, organizations honored at President’s Leadership Dessert
ONU honored student leaders and organizations during the 15th annual President’s Leadership Dessert on May 1. The DeBow Freed Leadership Awards, the highest level of recognition for excellence in student leadership, were presented to a male and female from each of the University’s undergraduate classes. In addition, three student organizations were honored with the Alice-Kay Hilderbrand Student Organization of the Year Award in recognition of their active leadership roles at ONU and positive contributions to the campus community.
Pure science Three quarters of a billion people on the planet are without daily access to clean water. It’s a problem engineers will have to solve. There won’t be one solution to a problem this large. There will be many and ONU civil engineering majors are among those chipping away at the problem.
