Student and faculty member publish the article "Guarding a Koch Fractal Art Gallery."
Bill Fuller, associate professor of mathematics, and Lauren Cassell, BS ’12, have published an article, “Guarding a Koch Fractal Art Gallery” in The Open Journal of Discrete Mathematics, 2012, Volume 2, Number 4, pp134-137. The classical art gallery problem deals with the most efficient way of positioning guards, or security cameras, in an art gallery with many side galleries. This article is a further development of work that Cassell did as part of her senior capstone in mathematics and presents a method of generalizing the classical problem to the situation in which the sides are fractal curves.
