Application for the Ruth E. Weir Memorial Award for Internships

The Ruth E. Weir Memorial Award for Internships is awarded to qualified Arts and Sciences students engaging in off-campus summer internships.

Any student applying for this award must compose an application essay, put together a professional résumé or curriculum vitae, complete the Financial Aid for International Study/Domestic Internships form and submit it to Financial Aid, request a letter of reference from his or her academic advisor, and complete and submit this online application by the deadline below. Applicants who do not submit all components of the application will not be considered for the Weir Internship Award.

Commencement dates are available through spring 2020. Find them on the semester calendar page (www.onu.edu/node/16195).
List the advisor most closely associated with the discipline in which you intend to intern. For instance, if you are a double major in forensic biology and criminal justice and the internship is in criminal justice, list your criminal justice advisor. Your advisor will be asked to confirm that you are prepared to complete an internship in this field and to recommend you for this award.
Be sure to correctly enter your advisor's ONU email address, including any dot-number (e.g .1, .2, etc.), as this is the address to which the request for your letter of recommendation will be sent. If you enter an incorrect email address, the request for your letter of recommendation may not arrive and your application may remain incomplete!

Application essay

Your proposal must be 1 to 2 pages and have 1-inch margins. Within the top margin of each page, place the document title (YOUR LAST NAME Weir Internship Essay) in the left corner. If your document is more than one page, add the page number to the top right corner. Use a standard, serif font (e.g. Garamond, Times New Roman) of not less than 10- and not more than 12-point. Your proposal may be single- or double-spaced; if single-spaced, leave a blank line between paragraphs. Follow standard English spelling, punctuation, and grammar conventions. PART ONE: Explain why this internship is important to your personal, academic, and professional goals. PART TWO (optional): If relevant, identify any particular financial need that the Weir Internship Scholarship might help offset, should you receive it.
