Construction to close Lima Avenue
Work has already begun on the next phase of the West Lima Avenue project. Most of the construction will take place between the Ada corporation line and Klingler Road/Township Road 35. Installation of a new storm sewer line will require digging up the Green Monster walking/running track in three locations. The contractor plans to refill these areas with stone in one day to minimize disruption. West Lima Avenue will officially close on Monday, March 4, with competition set for Aug. 23. During this time, only residents who live along the construction area will have access.

Wind Orchestra presents ‘Raising the Bar’
The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “Raising the Bar” by the Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m.

ONU to hold panel discussion on Human Trafficking
Ohio Northern University will present a panel discussion on “Human Trafficking: The Invisible Problem” in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian to speak on ‘The Revolutionary Origins of the Civil War’
Dr. Gordon S. Wood, the Alva O. Way University Professor Emeritus at Brown University, will discuss “The Revolutionary Origins of the Civil War” in the Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m.

Spotlight: Faculty & Staff 

Paper presented at workshop

Diedre Keller, assistant professor of law, presented a paper, “Campaigning Under the Weight of Copyright:  What Can Mitt Romney Teach Us About the First Amendment?” at the regional faculty workshop hosted at Valparaiso University School of Law, Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 23.

Armstrong in Columbus production
John Armstrong, assistant professor of communication arts, is appearing in a Columbus production of the musical “Ordinary Days,” which had a successful Broadway run in 2009. The production was reviewed by Columbus Broadway World and the Columbus Dispatch.

Social media topic for presentation
Alisa Agozzino, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication arts, spoke about social media ethics as keynote speaker for the Northwest Ohio Public Relations Society of America luncheon, held Feb. 15, 2013, at the Toledo Club. Her topic was “Shades of Red… Social media ethics heat up.”

PR research paper to be presented
Alisa Agozzino, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication arts, and Candace Kaiser, a junior in communication arts from Bryan, Ohio, will present a paper, “Adding, deleting, and/or starting over:  how social media has changed crisis communication plans in school systems,” at the 16the annual International Public Relations Research Conference (IPRRC), March 8 in Miami, Fla.

Learn to Swim Classes

Registrations are now being accepted for swim classes for ages 4-12. Two sessions of learn to swim classes will be offered March 10, 17, 24, and April 7, 14 in the ONU Natatorium.

Law student testifies before U.S. Senate
Tara Marks, a first year law student from Pittsburgh, Pa., testified before the U.S. Senate Budget Committee during a hearing on the impact of federal budget decisions on families and communities. Marks described how federal programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Pell grants, provided aid in her time of need. 


ONU – Solve recognized in journal
The ONU – Solve Problem Group has been recognized in the journal Fibonacci Quarterly. The group’s solution to Problem B-1103 is published in the journal’s current issue in the article “Elementary Problems and Solutions.” In addition the group is listed among people/groups submitting correct solutions to Problems B-1101 and B-1102. Drs. Mihai Caragiu and Mohammad Zaki are advisors to the student group.
