Former Wal-Mart President to speak at ONU

The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration will present James C. Shewmaker, former President and Chief Operating Officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., as the first speaker for the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

Shewmaker will speak on building and maintaining corporate ethics. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Since joining Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 1970, Shewmaker has enjoyed a successful career with the retailing firm. He has served in a number of capacities including the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer, and of Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer. Although he retired from Wal-Mart in 1988, he continues to be active on the corporation's Board of Directors.

In addition to serving on the Wal-Mart Board of Directors, Shewmaker serves as an Advisory Board Member for Henkel, North America, and on both the Executive and Finance Committees of the Board of Trustees of The Cleveland Clinic. Shewmaker is also a consultant to the Board of Directors and Executive Management of Woolworths Limited in Sydney, Australia. In September 2007 he will be inducted into Retailing Today magazine's Retail Hall of Fame.

The ONU College of Business Administration Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series brings successful entrepreneurs and officers of major corporations to discuss current business issues.
