Close call Friday: Near Earth Asteroids
The ONU Astronomy Club will host a look at near Earth asteroids on Friday, Feb. 15, beginning at 8 p.m. at the ONU Observatory. On Friday an asteroid called 2012 DA14 will come within 18,000 miles of Earth, closer than some geosynchronous satellites. “Although we will not be able to see 2012 DA14 from Ohio, we will look at other asteroids, along with telescopic favorites like Jupiter,” says Jason Pinkney, professor of physics. The event is free and open to the public. In case of poor viewing weather the event will not be held. Check the observatory website for the latest details.

‘Warriors Don’t Cry’

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Warriors Don’t Cry” on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. The production is being held in conjunction with ONU’s celebration of Black History Month.


‘Peace Corps: What it Means to Serve’
Ohio Northern University presents 2006 graduate Amanda Horvath, who will discuss “Peace Corps: What It Means to Serve,” in the Dicke Forum on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Attorney to speak on LGBT-related issues

Tara McKenzie Allison, an attorney who practices in Columbus, Ohio, will discuss her personal experiences as a member of the transgender community and speak on other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues in the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law Moot Room on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m.

Phi Beta Delta, CASE to present lecture on economics and inequality

Ohio Northern University’s Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Beta Delta and CASE (Committee on the Arts and Special Events) present Jonathon Andreas, economics professor at Bluffton University, in the Dicke Forum on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m.

Entrepreneur workshop covers pricing products

The Community Economic Development Center (CEDC) at Ohio Northern University continues its entrepreneurship workshop series in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The workshop will be preceded by a networking event at 5:30 p.m. The workshop will follow the networking event and conclude at 7 p.m.

Papers published
Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mohti, assistant professor of civil engineering and advisor of concrete canoe and steel bridge teams, has recently published three journal papers.

Law article published
Deidre Keller, assistant professor of law, is author of an article, “Recognizing the Derivative Works Right as a Moral Right:  A Case Comparison and Proposal,” published by the Case Western Reserve Law Review.

Learn to Swim Classes

Registrations are now being accepted for swim classes for ages 4-12. Two sessions of learn to swim classes will be offered March 10, 17, 24, and April 7, 14 in the ONU Natatorium.

Elderly and low-income tax payers in Hardin and surrounding counties can find free income tax assistance from Ohio Northern University business and law students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). True North Public Relations firm garners first place
Ohio Northern University’s student-run firm, True North Public Relations, took first place in a competition sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to promote state parks in the Northern Ohio area. The competition called for teams to create promotional video and audio spots to be used regionally by the department.

Greeks honored at conference

ONU’s Greek community received a number of honors at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values’ Central Fraternal Leadership Conference, held Feb. 7-9 in Indianapolis, Ind., in conjunction with the National Black Greek Leadership Conference.
