ONU to present discussion on diversity awareness, initiatives in the NCAA
Floyd Keith, executive director of the Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA), will speak on diversity awareness and Anthony Holman, NCAA assistant director of championships and alliances, will speak on diversity initiatives in the ONU Sports Center on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial service for Bev Daugherty
A memorial service will be held for Beverly “Bev” Daugherty in the Ohio Northern University English Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10:30 a.m.

ONU to present Carrie Newcomer
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present Carrie Newcomer on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. Newcomer is a rare breed of singer/songwriter, the kind who illuminates life with startling depth, humor and clarity.


ONU to present ‘Suicide in B Flat’

Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Suicide in B Flat” from Feb. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. with two matinée shows on Saturday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. The production, done by ONU students, revolves around two detectives attempting to sort out a murder/suicide in a darkly comic, jazz-inspired parody of a detective story written by Sam Shepard, one of America’s greatest contemporary dramatic voices.

Experience ONU Day, Feb. 18

Ohio Northern University welcomes high school seniors to campus for Experience ONU Day on Monday, Feb. 18. Prospective students will learn about specific Ohio Northern programs; meet with current students, faculty and staff; and attend informational admissions and financial aid sessions. A complimentary lunch and campus tour also will be provided.

Elderly and low-income tax payers in Hardin and surrounding counties can find free income tax assistance from Ohio Northern University business and law students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). McManus presents paper
Eva McManus, Ph.D, professor of English, presented “You would pluck out the heart of my mystery: Using RSC’s Pan-African Julius Caesar and ASC’s Twelfth Night to Define Essential Qualities of Shakespeare’s Drama" at the 36th Annual Ohio Valley Shakespeare Conference 2012, held Oct. 18-20 at Marietta College.

Book published
Raymond F. Person, Jr., Ph.D., professor of philosophy and religion, is co-editor of a new book, “Deuteronomy in the Pentateuch, Hexateuch, and the Deuteronomistic History.” The book brings together various voices in these recent debates concerning the role of Deuteronomy in the larger literary works incorporating material before and after the book of Deuteronomy.

Professors participate in ACS leadership development
Bradley Wile, Ph.D., and Amelia Anderson-Wile, Ph.D., assistant professors of chemistry, have been recognized by the Younger Chemist’s Committee of the American Chemical Society (ACS) with a leadership development award.

Learn to Swim Classes

Registrations are now being accepted for swim classes for ages 4-12. Two sessions of learn to swim classes will be offered March 10, 17, 24, and April 7, 14 in the ONU Natatorium.

Beyond the ban
Ohio roads are safer with a texting ban in place. Four ONU alumni helped make it that way. Jenna Aiello, BS ’12, Keira Corbett, BS ’12, Andrew Park, BS ’12, and Joshua Salsbury, BS ’12, testified before the Ohio House Committee on Transportation and Public Safety in March 2012 using their own research to argue on behalf of a texting ban.
