ONU to celebrate Black History Month
Ohio Northern University commemorates Black History Month this February with a number of scheduled events. Several campus organizations will collaborate to provide diverse opportunities to celebrate African-American heritage.
ONU to present Venice Baroque Orchestra
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present the Venice Baroque Orchestra in the Stambaugh Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. The Venice Baroque Orchestra (VBO) is recognized as one of the premier ensembles devoted to period-instrument performance.
ONU to present ‘Suicide in B Flat’
Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Suicide in B Flat” from Feb. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. with two matinee shows on Saturday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. The production, done by ONU students, revolves around two detectives attempting to sort out a murder/suicide in a darkly comic, jazz-inspired parody of a detective story written by Sam Shepard, one of America’s greatest contemporary dramatic voices. Art work in state exhibition
Melissa Eddings-Mancuso, associate professor of art, is one of the artists with work included in the Book + Art: The Reading Room sponsored by the Denison University Museum. The exhibition will be on display from Feb. 8—May 11 in Granville, Ohio.
Learn to Swim Classes
Registrations are now being accepted for swim classes for ages 4-12. Two sessions of learn to swim classes will be offered March 10, 17, 24, April 7, 4 in the ONU Natatorium.
Student Pharmacists to participate in Medication Adherence Challenge
Ohio Northern University’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) has scheduled a number of events as part of the Medication Adherence Challenge, a national effort to raise public awareness of the importance of taking medications as prescribed. Allison McCarthy, a senior in chemistry from New Washington, Ohio, will be taking part in the 245th ACS (American Chemical Society) National Meeting in New Orleans, La., April 7-11. Her poster presentation, “Hetero Diels-Alder reactions of 3-formylchromones” will be part of the Division of Organic Chemistry session “New Reactions and Methodology, Heterocycles and Aromatics,” held the evening of April 10. Mu Delta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi recognized as superior chapter
Ohio Northern University’s Mu Delta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi was recognized as a Superior Chapter for the 2011-12 academic year. In recognition of this achievement, the chapter received a check for $275 sponsored by the KPMG Foundation.

Central Ohio Alumni Club to coordinate volunteer day
The ONU Central Ohio Alumni Club will coordinate a day of service on Saturday, Feb. 9, at three locations in Columbus: Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Columbus ReStore, and the United Methodist Church Community Development for All People Free Store. All three events begin at 9 a.m.
