ONU among best in Ohio bar passage rate
Graduates of the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law continued their record of outstanding achievement on the Ohio bar examination with a passage rate of 89 percent, which ranks second among students from all Ohio law schools who took the examination in 2012 and highest among all private Ohio law schools.

Town and Gown Banquet to honor distinguished citizen
The 47th annual Ada Town and Gown Banquet will be held in the McIntosh Center ballroom on the campus of Ohio Northern University on Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. The Town and Gown Association was established in 1957 by a group of townspeople and ONU personnel to develop and maintain a strong positive relationship between the village of Ada and Ohio Northern.

Ohio Northern University to honor veterans
Ohio Northern University will celebrate the contributions of American service members with a number of activities beginning Nov. 5 and leading up to Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

ONU to host fall open houses
Ohio Northern University welcomes high school seniors to campus for an open house Nov. 3. Prospective students will learn about specific Ohio Northern programs, meet with current students, faculty and staff, and attend informational admissions and financial aid sessions.

‘Leading Change’ topic for entrepreneur workshop
The Community Economic Development Center (CEDC) at Ohio Northern University continues its entrepreneurship workshop series in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The workshop will be preceded by a networking event at 5:30 p.m. The workshop will follow the networking event and conclude at 7 p.m.

Artists Against Hunger, Nov. 10
The third annual Artists Against Hunger soup luncheon to raise funds for the local backpack program will be held at the Wilson Art Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 10.  



'Classical Jam,' Nov. 10
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Classical Jam” as part of the ongoing Studio Series in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

ONU to host estate, business and estate planning seminar
Ohio Northern University’s Office of Gift Planning and the Claude W. Pettit College of Law will host the 18th annual Estate, Business and Estate Planning Seminar on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Web redesign receives recognition
ONU’s redesigned Academics Website has been recognized with the 2012 Pride of CASE V award for Best Web Site, Individual Page or Section. The site, created by Brian Paris, associate director of online content, Ken Colwell, associate director of web design, and Emily Buehler, assistant director of admissions, received the bronze award behind Indiana University, gold, and Minnesota Medical Foundation, silver. CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) is an international professional association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.


Professor receives Teaching with Primary Sources grant
Dr. James Schul, assistant professor of education at Ohio Northern University, has received a Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region grant to fund the “Fostering Historical Thinking and Imagination through Primary Source Instruction” project.


ONU represented at Society for Neuroscience Conference

Dr. Philip Zoladz, assistant professor of psychology, and 10 past and present research assistants, attended the 2012 annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, held Oct. 13-17 in New Orleans, La., to present posters based on research conducted at ONU.

Casey named Teacher of Year
Dr. Rebecca L. Casey, associate professor of music, has been awarded the OMTA (Ohio Music Teachers Association) State Certified Teacher of the Year award for "recognition of excellence in piano instruction and dedication to OMTA/MTNA." She will be honored at the OMTA/MTNA state convention in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. Casey is head of the keyboard area in the Music Department.

Clingerman participates in research seminars

Forrest Clingerman, associate professor of religion, recently took part in two research seminars at Scottish universities.

Article by Dr. Kim to be published
Dr. Dong Hyun Kim, assistant professor of finance, is co-author of an article to be published in the Journal of Corporate Finance. The paper is“Impact of the TARP Financing Choice on Existing Preferred Stock.”

Jarrett named Outstanding New Professional
Jayme Jarrett, financial aid counselor, was named the Outstanding New Professional at the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators(MASFAA) annual conference in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mortar Board chapter honored
The Aurora chapter of the National Mortar Board Society at Ohio Northern University was honored for excellence at the 2012 Mortar Board National Conference, held this past July in Chicago.

PRSSA team finishes third in national competition
Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) group took third place in Rowan University’s 2012 National Organ Donor Awareness Competition (NODAC).

PRSSA chapter receives Star Chapter recognition
Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) received a Star Chapter Award at the 2012 PRSSA National Conference in San Francisco Oct. 12-19.

Student receives PRSSA Internship Award

Ohio Northern University junior Lauren Stahl, a communication arts/public relations major from Belle Center, Ohio, was awarded the Altschul Champions for PRSSA Outstanding Internship Award at the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) National Conference on Oct. 15.


Math Shoot-out brings 18 teams to campus
Eighteen area high schools took part in the 10th annual Ohio Northern University Mathematics Shoot-out at the Mathile Center on Oct. 9.

Help the future of arts education! SNAAP Survey open now
Ohio Northern University is participating in the 2012 Strategic National Arts Alumni (SNAAP) survey – a one-of-a-kind survey that explores the lives of arts alumni nationwide. ONU alumni completing the survey this fall will have access to a website to see how their educational and career experiences compare with alumni across the country. See where other arts graduates live, where they work, what they earn and how their arts educations have influenced their lives. Arts alumni who graduated but have not yet received an email invitation to complete the survey should go to snaap.indiana.edu to take the survey.
