Professor co-authors article on ‘Gender Disparity in Video Game Usage’

Dr. Mark Cruea, Ohio Northern University assistant professor of communications studies, and Dr. Sung-Yeon Park of Bowling Green State University co-authored an article, “Gender Disparity in Video Game Usage: A Third-person Perception-based Explanation” that has been published in the refereed scholarly journal Media Psychology.

Cruea said the study took a close look at the disparity in video game play between men and women based on perceptions of video game usage and the influence of unrealistic body images on game players.

Cruea’s primary research interests are focused on video games, including issues of race and gender, as well as the video game industry from a political economy standpoint. Other interests include visual communication and convergent media.
