Ohio Northern University named Military Friendly School

For the third consecutive year, Ohio Northern University has been named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine. This distinction recognizes Ohio Northern for ranking in the top 15 percent among all universities and trades schools nationwide in welcoming military and veteran students. Schools and universities on the Military Friendly Schools list encourage policies, efforts and results used to recruit and retain military and veteran students.

Nine countries represented in ONU’s LL.M. program

Fourteen lawyers from nine different countries have begun studying toward their Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law at Ohio Northern University’s Claude W. Pettit College of Law this month. They make up the seventh class to join ONU’s unique, one-year graduate law program, which focuses on providing lawyers from transitional countries with the skills to help build democratic institutions and the rule of law in their home countries.

Dance Company to perform with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) with the ONU Dance Company on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m.


Road to the White House Tour
: C-SPAN Campaign 2012 Bus
The C-SPAN Campaign 2012 Bus will make a stop at Ohio Northern University as part of its “Road to the White House” tour on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. The bus will be parked between The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration and the Hill Building.


ONU to present ‘Energy Economics’ seminar
The Ohio Northern University T.J. Smull College of Engineering will host a seminar, “Energy Economics – Keeping the Lights On,” at The Inn on the campus of ONU on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Jan Klaiss, a senior planning analyst at Consolidated Edison (ConEd) in New York City, will be the featured speaker.

Men’s and Women’s Choruses, University Singers, and Chamber Singers to perform
The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will present a concert featuring the ONU Men’s and Women’s Choruses, the University Singers and ONU Chamber Singers in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Alice Tan Ridley to perform Oct. 6

The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents Alice Tan Ridley in concert with the ONU Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 8:30 p.m. The ONU Symphony will be under the direction of Lloyd Butler. Ridley, who began her career singing in the New York subways, gained acclaim through her YouTube videos and was nicknamed the “New York City Subway Idol.”

2012 Kritzler Lecture to focus on discovery of drug to treat epilepsy, migraines
Bruce E. Maryanoff will deliver Ohio Northern University’s 2012 Kritzler Lecture, titled “A Story of Adventure: The Discovery of the Drug TOPAMAX® Topiramate for Treating Epilepsy and Migraines,” in The Freed Center for Performing Arts on Monday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.

Law professor named co-chair of American Bar Association committee
Elena Helmer, Ohio Northern University assistant professor of law and assistant director of the Democratic Governance and Rule of Law program, has been appointed co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of International Law International Anticorruption Committee.

ONU’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) will conduct “Operation Drug Disposal,” a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Drug Take Back Day, at the circle in front of McIntosh Center on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
