England Gate to be dedicated
ONU will honor Dale "Bud" England with the England Gate dedication ceremony at the new stadium gate and entrance plaza at Dial-Roberson Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. England will also serve as honorary football captain when the Polar Bears take on Capital at 1:30 p.m.


The Alumni Factor ranks ONU as a top school
The Alumni Factor has named Ohio Northern University as one of the top 177 top schools in the nation. ONU ranked 154th overall and 18th in the Midwest region. “This latest recognition shows not only that students who graduate from ONU receive an excellent education that prepares them for the future, but also that they enjoy the ONU experience and all the University has to offer,” said Daniel A. DiBiasio, ONU president.

Chamber music concert presents guests from Romania
ONU’s Department of Music presents “An Evening of Chamber Music,” featuring members of the Arad Philharmonic, in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

ONU to present panel discussion on the Constitution and health care

Ohio Northern University will observe Constitution Day with a panel discussion on “The Constitution and the Court: Health Care Mandates and Other Controversies” in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at noon. The event is free and open to the public.

Dance Company to perform with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) with the ONU Dance Company on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m.

Reid to participate in Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium
Ken Reid, ONU’s director of engineering education, is one of 72 of the nation's most innovative, young engineering educators selected to take part in the National Academy of Engineering's (NAE) fourth Frontiers of Engineering Education (FOEE) symposium.

Bud Smith continues to write
Dr. Claude C. “Bud” Smith, professor of English emeritus, has been busy since leaving the classroom. Since retirement he has placed first in five different nationally-advertised writing competitions. In an online interview with Iris, a magazine for thinking young women, he talks about writing and the influence of John Updike on his work. The Letter Project by Theresa Williams of Bowling Green State University, includes some of his correspondence with Updike and The Drunken Odyssey, a literary website by john King of New York University features a reading of one of his essays on Updike.

Alexander elected to Pi Sigma Alpha council
Robert Alexander, professor of political science, has been elected to the executive council of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society. He recently completed a two-year appointment to the council to fill an unexpired term.
