Marilyn Roth Basinger is presently a lecturer of music for Ohio Northern University and serves as Director of the ONU Women's Chorus. She holds a bachelor's from Ohio Northern University in Music Education, a master's from The University of Dayton and has done additional course work in Education at Walsh University.
Recently retired, Ms. Roth Basinger enjoyed a distinguished career in the public school setting where her choirs at Shawnee High and Middle Schools received high acclaim at OMEA Adjudicated Events and beyond. Her primary philosophy is that musical performance is the melding of soul and intellect, that it can, and should, be used to bind individuals together in the pursuit of excellence. The effectiveness of this ideal may be evidenced in her High School Choirs' record of 45 consecutive State Contest Superior Ratings and her Middle School Choirs' record of 60 consecutive Superior Ratings at the Junior High level of Large Group competition.
A member of The Ohio Music Education Association, her choirs have been chosen to perform at OMEA Convention and she has served on various music selection committees including OMEA Large Group Required lists, and the current Solo and Ensemble Required list. She is heavily involved as an OMEA Adjudicator for Middle and High School Solo and Ensemble, and Large Group events and has been honored to have judged OMEA State Level Choir Competition for the last 25 years.
Ms. Roth Basinger is the Adult Choir Director at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lima, Ohio, and the Principal Clarinetist of the Lima Area Concert Band, where she is also the Assistant Conductor.
