ONU among ‘Great Schools for Nursing Majors’ by The Princeton Review

The Ohio Northern University has been recognized as one of the “Great Schools for Nursing Majors” in The Princeton Review’s annual college guide, “The Best 377 Colleges: 2013 Edition.” Ohio Northern was one of only 22 selected by The Princeton Review from more than 1,000 undergraduate schools about which data was collected.

ONU announces partnership with CareerScript

ONU’s Raabe College of Pharmacy and CareerScript LLC have announced a multi-year partnership to empower pharmacy students with novel technology and cutting-edge resources to enhance career development.

ONU to honor veterans at home football game
ONU will host Veterans Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Dial-Roberson Stadium in conjunction with its home football game against Heidelberg University. Pregame festivities, which begin at 1:45 p.m., include a scheduled F-16 jet flyover by the 180th Fighter Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard from Toledo, Ohio.

Moore one of ‘Best New Poets’
Jennifer Moore, assistant professor of English, is author of a poem, “As a Debutante I Adjusted My Hatpin,” selected for publication in Best New Poets 2012.

Grants to fund research, presentations
Dr. Forrest Clingerman, associate professor of philosophy and religion, is program director on a $1,500 grant to Ohio Northern University from the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Religion and Theology. And, Ohio Northern University is the recipient of a $2,000 grant to support the program entitled “Kossuth’s Message,” a series of at least five presentations commemorating the 160th anniversary of Lajos (Louis) Kossuth’s tour of the United States in 1851-1852. 

Riess to chair judging committee at 2012 Estonian Theater Festival
Nils Riess, Ohio Northern University professor of communications arts, director of media communication services and performing arts, and chair of the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts, will serve as chairman of the international judging committee at the 2012 Estonian Theater Drama and Baltic Theatre Festival in Tartu, Estonia, beginning Sept. 3.


Boyadzhiev presents at the BIOMATH 2012 International Conference

Khristo Boyadzhiev, professor of mathematics and statistics, presented a paper, “Equiangular Spirals, Equiangular Surfaces and Self-similar Surfaces in Biology,” at the BIOMATH 2012 International Conference held June 17-22 in Sofia, Bulgaria.  

Butler to guest conduct Lima Symphony

Lloyd Butler, director of the Freed Center Orchestra, will be guest conductor with the Lima Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 15.

Butler conducts in Australia
Lloyd Butler took his conducting skills to Australia where he conducted the orchestra for a production of "Into the Woods" to warm reviews.

Baumgartner brings Mars to elementary school classroom
Eric Baumgartner, dean of the College of Engineering talked with elementary students via Skype about the Mars Rover program. He explains, "Brian Henderson is the engineer-inresidence in the College of Engineering. His daughter, Sarah Pershing, works at an elementary school in northern Kentucky. Through Sarah, I did a Skype session with the class to talk about the Mars rovers. WLWT in Cincinnati picked up the story."

The ONU-SOLVE recognized in Mathematics Magazine

The ONU-SOLVE Problem Group, advised by Mihai Caragiu, professor of mathematics, and Mohammad Zaki, assistant professor of mathematics, was recognized twice in Mathematics Magazine.

Tuition Exchange Information Session

Full-time employees who will have a child enrolled in college during 2013-2014 as first-time freshmen and all other ranks, are invited to learn about the Tuition Exchange Inc. program in a special session at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in McIntosh Room 7. Questions may always be directed to Dr. Juliet Hurtig.

Miniature Books Project opens Elzay Gallery of Art season
“Monumental Ideas in Miniature Books Project” is an exhibition that investigates the power of small-scale artists’ books. The exhibit runs through Sept. 21.

Walking for Wellness
Walking for Wellness is a 12-week walking program for ONU employees, offered by ONU HealthWise. Each participant will set daily walking goals and receive a pedometer to track their progress. To be part of the program, contact Amy Fanous, PGY1 resident for ONU HealthWise.
