ONU to honor veterans at home football game

Aug 28, 2012

Ohio Northern University will host Veterans Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Dial-Roberson Stadium in conjunction with its home football game against Heidelberg University.

Pregame festivities, which begin at 1:45 p.m., include a scheduled F-16 jet flyover by the 180th Fighter Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard from Toledo, Ohio, honorary team captains representing various military branches, and on-field veteran recognition. Ohio VFW Commander Chuck Keller, Ohio Northern President Daniel DiBiasio and Ohio Athletic Conference Commissioner Tim Gleason will share thoughts, and ONU Chaplain David MacDonald will offer a prayer and moment of silence.

All veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their families will be admitted into the game for free.

Kickoff of the Polar Bears’ home opener against the Student Princes is at 2:15 p.m. Tickets, priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students, will be available at the gate.

The Ohio Northern players will wear commemorative camouflage jerseys during the game. These game-worn jerseys will be available through a silent auction after the game, with all profits being donated to the Ohio Veterans of Foreign Wars Veterans Services Fund.
