ONU welcomes incoming freshmen

Ohio Northern University opens its doors to the 2012-13 academic year with the traditional move-in day for incoming freshmen and new students on Saturday, Aug. 18. Classes begin on Aug. 22.

Students to travel to Republican and Democratic conventions
Ten ONU students are traveling to the Republican and Democratic conventions and will participate in The Washington Center’s Democratic and Republican National Convention Academic Seminars.

Pettit College of Law recognized as one of the nation’s most innovative law schools
ONU's Pettit College of Law was named one of the most innovative schools in the country by The National Jurist and will be featured in the “Back to School” issue of preLaw magazine in August. ONU was one of 20 law schools selected by The National Jurist.


College of Pharmacy receives grant to fund clinical study with Kroger
The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy, along with Kroger Pharmacy, has received a Community Pharmacy Foundation grant that will focus on a community-based pharmacogenetic study looking at a person’s genetics relative to drug therapy.

Ada Civic Engagement Day coming Aug. 21

To continue the positive partnership with Ohio Northern University and the village of Ada, ONU is introducing the first Ada Civic Engagement (ACE) Day on Aug. 21.

Road work detours campus traffic
West Lincoln Avenue will remain closed until Sept. 1, 2012, due to the Lincoln Avenue Phase II project. Detour signs have been placed on Main Street directing traffic to the sports and science complexes. Check the campus map for details.

Spotlight: Faculty & Staff 

Tuition Exchange Information Session

Full-time employees who will have a child enrolled in college during 2013-2014 as first-time freshmen and all other ranks, are invited to learn about the Tuition Exchange Inc. program in a special session at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in McIntosh Room 7. Questions may always be directed to Dr. Juliet Hurtig.

Grant to assist campus recycling efforts
Efforts by William Kent, mail room supervisor, and Lee Ann Hall, director of Business Services & Risk Management, have resulted in a grant of $2,500 to Ohio Northern University from the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District.  

Walking for Wellness
Walking for Wellness is a 12-week walking program for ONU employees, offered by ONU HealthWise. Each participant will set daily walking goals and receive a pedometer to track their progress. To be part of the program, contact Amy Fanous, PGY1 resident for ONU HealthWise.

Swim lessons set
Swim lessons for children ages 4-12 will begin Sept. 16. Conducted as a practicum by ONU students in life guarding and water safety instructor classes, the classes are a fundraiser for the ONU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. Registration deadline is Sept. 9.

ONU students explore ministry
Two ONU students, Andy Burns, a sophomore in music education from Circleville, Ohio, and Alex Wiles, a sophomore in management from Cridersville, Ohio, along with Rocky Riddle of Ohio State University, took part in 12-week paid summer internships as part of the Next Generations Leadership Ministry Interns program sponsored by the West Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Chapter of the Year
ONU’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, has been named a “Best Chapter of the Year” by the national organization. Out of 749 chapters, the award is given to fewer than 10 universities across the country.

Pharmacy student awarded scholarship

Cortney Phillips, a sixth-year pharmacy student from Perrysburg, Ohio, has been named recipient of a Partners in Pharmacy Scholarship.
