Pharmacy student places at Drug Information annual meeting
Megan Bensi, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Kirkland, Ohio, was awarded third place for her poster presented at The Drug Information Association’s 48th annual meeting held in Philadelphia, Pa., June 24-28.
She worked with Dr. Donald Sullivan on the research titled “Evaluating Consumer Understanding of Prescription Label Information: An Assessment of USP 2011 Recommendations.” In 2011, the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) published recommendations promoting the implementation of universal standards for prescription medication labels in an effort to enhance patient understanding of label content and to significantly reduce adverse drug events due to medication misuse and label misinterpretation. The goal of this study was to provide empirical data to assess the recommendations and introduce a prescription label emphasizing essential information in a patient-centered format.
Bensi’s was awarded third place from 20 graduate level students from across the U.S. and around the world chosen from a pool of over 100 across multiple disciplines who all presented student posters.
