ONU receives funding to develop new Risk Management and Insurance major
Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration was awarded a grant from the Robert P. Ashlock Memorial Program, funded through Assurex Global and administered by The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation to develop a risk management and insurance (RMI) major.

Bill BallardBallard is new vice president of financial affairs
Ohio Northern University President Daniel DiBiasio has announced that William H. Ballard has joined the University as its new vice president of financial affairs. Ballard replaces Roger Young, who has been the interim vice president for the past year.

Ada Civic Engagement Day coming Aug. 21
To continue the positive partnership with Ohio Northern University and the village of Ada, ONU is introducing the first Ada Civic Engagement (ACE) Day on Aug. 21.

Road work detours campus traffic
West Lincoln Avenue will remain closed until Sept. 1, 2012, due to the Lincoln Avenue Phase II project. Detour signs have been placed on Main Street directing traffic to the sports and science complexes. Check the campus map for details.

Karen Condeni writes about ‘navigator’ parents
Karen P. Condeni, BA '74, special assistant to the President and former vice president of admissions, is author of an article in the Summer 2012 issue of the Journal of College Admissions. In the article titled “Navigators of Today: College Parents,”  Condeni says, “More parents of traditional college-aged offspring have been quickly morphing away from being known as ‘helicopters’; they are now full blown ‘navigators.’” She explains how to work with these types of parents to achieve student success. The article is available online.

Marquart presents paper, chairs session at national conference

Dr. Jed E. Marquart, BSME '80, professor of mechanical engineering, presented a paper and chaired a technical session at the Sixth Annual AIAA Flow Control Conference, sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The conference was held in New Orleans, LA, on July 25-28 with more than 1,500 engineers and scientist in attendance, and approximately 750 technical papers were presented.

Clingerman published
Forrest Clingerman, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy and religion, is author of a chapter in the just-published book, “Engineering the Climate" and co-editor of a new book series.

Kisor takes part in genetics education discussion

David F. Kisor, professor of pharmacokinetics, took part in a meeting to discuss pharmacy education competencies related to genetics and pharmacogenetics, hosted June 19 by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the National Institutes of Health.

Zoladz receives grant
Dr. Phillip Zoladz, assistant professor of psychology, is the recipient of a $2,000 research grant from Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology for the project titled “Temporal Dynamics of Stress Effects on False Memory Production.” The study will test the hypothesis that stress administered immediately prior to learning could enhance long-term memory accuracy rather than facilitate the production of false recall. This is the third Psi Chi grant in which Zoladz has been involved.

Donation to benefit engineering program

Engineering’s programming environments course has a new component, thanks to a donation of 20 Texas Instruments Chronos watches, secured by the efforts of Dr. John K. Estell, professor of computer engineering and computer science.

Neely presents at artificial intelligence conference
Erica Neely, assistant professor of philosophy, presented a paper, “Machines and the Moral Community,” at the AISB/IACAP World Congress 2012, held July 2-6 in Birmingham, England.

This month the HealthWise newsletter includes information on bug bites, staying safe in the sun and new information on skin cancer and NSAIDS. Also look for summer exercise classes.

ONU’s Zeta Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta won the organization’s Golden Kite award at this year's Grand Convention in Tucson, Ariz.
