Students, conductor to help celebrate Independence Day
Three musical theatre students, Kayla Burress, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, Layne Schneider, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, and Trevor Dorner, a sophomore from Perrysburg, Ohio, will be joining Lloyd Butler, musical director of the Musical Theatre Program and director of the Freed Center Orchestra, for holiday concerts with the Lima Symphony Orchestra in Van Wert and Lima, Ohio.
On June 29, Butler will be conducting the Lima Symphony Orchestra in Van Wert as part of the Lima Symphony Summer series. The program will be “"Our Song" - great music of America to celebrate the 4th of July Holiday.
On July 4, Butler will be guest conducting he Lima Symphony Orchestra at Lima’s Fourth of July celebration in Faurot Park.
In addition, Butler was guest conductor for the Arad Philharmonic in Arad, Romania, on June 7. ONU string faculty members Florin Simioanca and Rachel Pinkney also performed.
On June 23 Butler was guest conductor at the Sinfonietta of the San Luis Potosi University, conducting the Rana Sanatcruz project that The Freed Center has been developing. This was the premiere performance of this project with entertainment agents throughout Mexico coming to preview the performance for future bookings.
From Aug. 25 to Sept. 1, Butler will be guest music director for the production of Into the Woods with WAAPA-Western Australian Academy of the Performing Arts.
