David CragoPharmacy begins educational partnership with Ghana
ONU’s Raabe College of Pharmacy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pharmacy Council of Ghana and the school of pharmacy at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to begin preparations for implementing a doctoral program of pharmacy in Ghana.

Summer Honors Institute registration deadline extended
There is still time for high school students to register for many of the outstanding summer camp courses provided through Ohio Northern University's Summer Academic and Honors Institute (SAHI).

David CragoONU honored with Edison Gold Medal as member of KEEN

The Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN), a collection of 20 colleges and universities that includes Ohio Northern University, was awarded an Edison Gold Medal in the category of Collaborative Networks and Support on Thursday, April 26. The award was announced during the Edison Awards’ 25th anniversary celebration in New York City.

ONU hosts LSAC DiscoverLaw.org PLUS program

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law is hosting 25 students from around the nation for the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) DiscoverLaw.org Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program.

Summer Sounds Choral Festival
Ohio Northern University is hosting a “Summer Sounds Choral Festival” for elementary-age students (from second to sixth grades) on the campus of ONU from June 25-29.

Road work detours campus traffic
West Lincoln Avenue will remain closed until Sept. 1, 2012, due to the Lincoln Avenue Phase II project. Detour signs have been placed on Main Street directing traffic to the sports and science complexes. Check the campus map for details.

Ken Colwell, associate director of web design in Communications and Marketing, has received a fourth place award in the May competition sponsored by the University Photographers’ Association of America. His photo, “Pie-in-the-facial” was honored in the News: Spot & Feature section.



Armstrong joins ‘Band Geeks!’

John R. Armstrong, assistant professor of communication arts, is currently working with The Human Race Theatre Company in Dayton, Ohio. He is appearing in the musical “Band Geeks!” through June 17. He recently talked about the production on Living Dayton on WDTN, Channel 2, television.

Retrospective celebrates the art of James H. DeVore
A memorial exhibition at the Elzay Gallery of Art is honoring one of Ohio Northern University’s most admired professors, James H. DeVore, who died last February. The show features at least 30 of his pieces, according to Professor Emeritus Bruce Chesser, the curator who worked on the show.

English Department hosts the College English Association of Ohio Conference

At the May 4 College English Association of Ohio Conference in the McIntosh Center, Dr. Scott Rogers, assistant professor of English, presented a paper, "Floods and Forging Ahead: Why It's Important to Have a Plan B" in the session titled "Changing Landscapes, Changing Pedagogy: Traveling with Students and Teaching Outside the U.S."

Andrew Jacoby of Columbus, Ohio, and Matthew Dutro, of Dayton, Ohio, both management majors, attended the North American Marketing conference in Chicago, Ill., and presented a research paper they co-authored for their Nonprofit Management class at ONU.

Physics and astronomy student wins first place at conference
DJ Pleshinger’s poster presentation won first place at the International Dusty Plasma Conference hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas, on May 20-23, 2012. The poster, titled, “Observation of diffusion in a two-dimensional self heated dusty plasma,” was named the top undergraduate poster. DJ, a junior from Bolivar, Ohio, works in the ONU dusty plasma research lab with Dr. Terrence Sheridan, professor of physics.

Abby Ricket receives The Catherine Freed Leadership Award
Abby Ricket, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Pickerington, Ohio, has been awarded the 2012 Catherine Freed Leadership Award at Ohio Northern University. The award, named for the University’s former First Lady Mrs. Catherine Freed, recognizes the outstanding female leader on campus.



Rebecca Yeh in Miss Minnesota Pageant
Rebecca Yeh, a second-year pharmacy student from Nisswa, Minn., is Miss Brainerd Lakes in the Miss Minnesota Pageant, an official preliminary of the Miss America Pageant.

The Alumni Association of Ohio Northern University presented Distinguished Alumni Awards during the Alumni Awards Banquet on June 2.The awards, recognizing outstanding service and loyalty, were presented to Karen P. (Casper) Condeni, JoAnne (Griffith) Lipski, and Michael Chow. The banquet was part of Northern’s 2012 Alumni Weekend, held June 1-3.
