Department of English to present poet Rebecca Lindenberg
Ohio Northern University’s Department of English will present Rebecca Lindenberg in the Elzay Gallery of Art on Thursday, April 19, at 7 p.m. Lindenberg will read from her first book of poetry, “Love, An Index.”

Junior Discover ONU Day, April 21
Ohio Northern University will host a Junior Discover ONU Day for high school juniors on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Approximately 100 prospective students and their families are expected to attend the open house.

ONU to host bone marrow drive
In conjunction with the annual Relay for Life, April 20-21, the community is invited to take part in a drive to register bone marrow donors. The drive will be held on the campus’s “Tundra,” just south of the English Chapel, on Friday, April 20, from 6-10 p.m.

ONU to host seminar on heroin issues
The Ohio Northern University Department of History, Politics and Justice, in conjunction with the ONU Public Interest Law Association, will host a seminar focusing on heroin issues on Saturday, April 21.

Renowned Iranian-American Scholar to lecture at ONU
Ohio Northern University will host internationally renowned Iranian-American scholar Trita Parsi in the ballroom of McIntosh Student Center on Tuesday, April 24, at 7 p.m.

Free Youth Football Clinic, April 29

A free youth football clinic will be offered from noon to 1:30 p.m., April 29 at ONU’s Dial Roberson Stadium. The program is open to children ages 6-13. A free T-shirt will be given to participants who register in advance. Gospel Ensemble to celebrate 25 years of music
Ohio Northern University’s Gospel Ensemble will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a concert in the ONU English Chapel on Saturday, April 29, at 4 p.m.

Public works project detours campus traffic
West Lincoln Avenue will remain closed until Sept. 1, 2012, due to the Lincoln Avenue Phase II project. Detour signs have been placed on Main Street directing traffic to the sports and science complexes. Check the campus map for details.

Among the recent grants received by ONU are awards to: Dr. Christopher Spiese, chemistry; Kathleen DeVault, Freed Center for the Performing Arts, Dr. Jed Marquart, engineering; Dr. Ken Reid, engineering; Dr. Dennis DeLuca, biology.

Cruea elected to regional post
Dr. Mark Cruea, instructor of communication arts, has been elected as secretary and webmaster for the Great Ideas for Teaching (GIFTs) division for the Central States Communication Association.

Clingerman elected to regional post
Dr. Forrest Clingerman, associate professor of philosophy and religion, has been elected to a three-year term as regional coordinator for the Midwest Region of the American Academy of Religion.

Smittle honored for collaborative work
David Smittle, director of ONU’s Advancement Services, has been honored for his work with the Banner system’s advancement applications.

Walk to teach in Kiplinger Program
Randy Walk, associate director of multimedia development in the Communications and Marketing department, is one of nine guest lecturers for the Kiplinger Fellowship Program in Public Affairs Reporting at The Ohio State University. He will be teaching video journalism.

Paws for Thanks winners named
Congratulations to the Paws for Thanks nominees for the first quarter of 2012: George Sleesman, security; James Dunlap, physical plant; Jennifer Dunlap, civil engineering senior administrative assistant; Ann Hood, physical plant; and Tammy Niese, controller’s office, accountant.

Honors Day, April 28
Tickets are now on sale for the Honors Day banquet, 12:15 p.m., Saturday, April 28 in the Sports Center Field House. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the Academics Affairs office in Lehr Memorial or online.

April is tornado awareness month

In case of a tornado warning, you should stay inside a safe area until the warning is cancelled. The University's outdoor warning siren is activated when a tornado warning is issued. It is tested on the first Friday of each month at approximately noon.

David CragoEngineering students create robots to play in robotic football game at Notre Dame
Students from Ohio Northern University’s T.J. Smull College of Engineering have created a team of robotic football players to compete in the fourth annual University of Notre Dame robotic football competition on Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in Notre Dame’s Stepan Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Two receive 2012 AACP Walmart award
Lauren L. Rupp, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Archbold, Ohio, and Deirdre Myers, pharmacy instructor, have been named recipients of the 2012 AACP (American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy) Walmart Scholars Program award.

ONU to celebrate National Women’s Health Week
Ohio Northern University’s Kappa Epsilon (KE) will celebrate National Women’s Health Week by hosting women’s health events in the Ada, Kenton and Lima, Ohio, communities from April 17 to 27. This year’s theme is “It’s Your Time!”

Golf outing to benefit Ada United Methodist Church
ONU’s Interfraternity Council will host a golf outing on April 29 to benefit the Ada United Methodist Church. The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Bluffton Golf Club and is open to ONU students, faculty, staff, friends and family. Cost is $120 for a team of four and includes 18 holes of golf and a cart. Individuals are $35. The winning team receives a free round at Bluffton Golf Club. Deadline for registration is April 15. To learn more or to register, contact John Atkinson or Armond Cosiano.
