David Crago David Crago appointed provost/vice president of academic affairs 

Ohio Northern University President Daniel DiBiasio has announced the appointment of David Crago as the provost/vice president of academic affairs effective immediately. Crago is the dean of Ohio Northern's Pettit College of Law and has served as the interim vice president of academic affairs for the past two years.

 

David Wier David Weir receives College of Engineering's Distinguished Alumni Award

Ohio Northern University's T.J. Smull College of Engineering honored David Weir with its Distinguished Alumni Award on Feb. 13. Weir, who has devoted his life to engineering, is the third recipient of the award, which was established in 2010.   

 

Grant to fund Entrepreneurial Mindset Program 

ONU has received a Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN) grant from the Kern Family Foundation to support "Saturating the Ohio Northern University Undergraduate Engineering Student Experience with the Entrepreneurial Mindset," under the supervision of Dr. John-David Yoder, professor and chair of mechanical engineering, and Dr. Robert Kleine, associate professor of marketing.

 
 'The Magic School Bus' rolls into ONU

ONU's Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present "The Magic School Bus Live: The Climate Challenge." on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. "The Magic School Bus" is based on the PBS cartoon of the same title.

 

 

Pettit College of Law to host Diversity Forum

The  Pettit College of Law's 13th annual Diversity Forum will discuss "The 20-Year Legacy of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas" in the Celebrezze Moot Court Room 127 on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m.

 

 

Tickets on sale for 'Miss Saigon'

 In combination with the musical theatre program, the symphony will present this musical in full orchestral scoring and limited staging Feb. 24-26. A beautiful retelling of the opera Madame Butterfly set during the Vietnam War, this international sensation is sure to deliver an evening of great entertainment.

Hrometz receives certification 

Sandra L. Hrometz, professor of pharmacology, has successfully completed the examination to become a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP) throught the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.

 

ASEE rubric published 

Dr. John K. Estell, professor of computer engineering and computer science, is one of the developers of a new rubric for the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), along with Dr. Brian P. Self of California Polytechnic State University and Dr. Elliot P. Douglas of the University of Florida.

 

Science Fair needs judges

Judges are needed for the Ohio Academy of Science district science day on March 24 at ONU. Students from grades 9 through 12 will take part. Faculty, staff and students, ages 21 and older, are encouraged to volunteer to be part of this event. For full details, contact Melissa Keifer or Jane Brown.  

 

Gerber to speak at Michigan State

Scott Douglas Gerber, professor of law, will speak as part of the faculty development series at Michigan State University's College of Law on Feb. 21 and 22. He will be discussing his two most recent books, "A Distinct Judicial Power: The Origins of an Independent Judiciary, 1606-1786," and "Mr. Justice."

Student-run PR firm finishes first in national competition 

Ohio Northern University's student-run public relations firm, True North PR, garnered first place in a national competition sponsored by Theatrics' Mass Participation TV. The competition's goal was to develop a grassroots campaign that used traditional and non-traditional methods to produce an increase in auditions for "Beckinfield," a new online web series.

 

Panhellenic Council receives awards 

ONU's Panhellenic Council received seven awards at the Feb. 9-12 Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) Central Fraternal Leadership Conference held in conjunction with the National Black Greek Leadership Conference in St. Louis, Mo.

 

2012 Learn to Swim classes slated  

Registrations are now being accepted for learn to swim classes for ages 4-12, presented by ONU students to benefit the ONU Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams. Two sessions of learn to swim classes will be offered March 25, April 1, 15, 22 and 29.
