Founder of Lexi-Comp to speak

The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration presents Robert D. Kerscher, founder, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Lexi-Comp Inc., in the next Dean's Distinguished Lecture.  The event will take place in the Dicke Hall Forum on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.

 

Spotts Lecture: 'Engineering Medical Miracles at Mayo Clinic'

Kevin E. Bennet, chairman of the Division of Engineering, assistant professor of neurologic surgery, and co-director of the Neural Engineering Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., will be the featured speaker for the Spotts Lecture in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.   

   

ONU students help with tax preparation

Free income tax assistance is available to low-income and elderly tax payers in Hardin and surrounding counties from Ohio Northern University business and law students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

 Alexander's book looks at Electoral College

Just in time for the presidential election, a new book by Dr. Robert M. Alexander, associate professor of political science, looks at the role of presidential electors and the Electoral College.  

"Presidential Electors and the Electoral College: 

An Examination of Lobbying, Wavering Electors, and Campaigns for Faithless Votes," was published Jan. 28, 2012, by Cambria Press. The book examines the role of presidential electors in the presidential selection process.    

 

Research paper presented  

Dr. James Schul, assistant professor of education, recently presented a research paper at the annual meeting of the College and University Faculty Assembly within the National Council for the Social Studies Convention held in Washington, D.C.

 

Article published

Scott Gerber, professor of law, is author of an article, "Why a law professor writes fiction," in the journal National Jurist, Jan. 2012, Vol. 21, Nol. 2, pages 14-15.

 

Technological studies prepares students for factory automation  

An article by Paul Nutter, associate professor of technological studies, in Graphic Speak, and online publication, talks about how ONU's partnership with manufacturers and software developer Dassault Systèmes is preparing graduates to use the latest 3D simulation to solve factory automation problems in the real world.

 

HealthWise Updates

Read the latest edition of the HealthWise Newsletter with information to help smokers kick the habit. And check out the new HealthWise Fitness page with walking maps for several campus buildings. Healthwise will offer free health screenings for all faculty and staff  from 7 to 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, in the McIntosh Activities Room. No appointment necessary-just stop by. Pharmacy students commissioned 

Four students from Ohio Northern University's Raabe College of Pharmacy were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force during a luncheon held Monday, Jan. 30.

 

Open Forum

 The Association of Future Forensic Professionals will host an open forum with Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart at 7 p.m., Feb. 8 in HP 151.

 

Winter Career and Grad/Professional School Fair

 Feb. 16 the Winter Career and Grad/Professional School Fair will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the McIntosh Center Activities Room and Lounge. The event is for sophomore, junior, senior and alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration and Engineering looking for full time, internship or summer positions and to meet with representatives from graduate and professional schools. The event is sponsored by ONU's Office of Career Services. Contact Jane Ward to learn more.

 

2012 Learn to Swim classes slated  

Registrations are now being accepted for learn to swim classes for ages 4-12, presented by ONU students to benefit the ONU Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams.

Two sessions of learn to swim classes will be offered March 25, April 1, 15, 22 and 29.

 

Bookstore hours change

Beginning Feb. 6 the bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the academic year. Saturday hours will continue to vary based on campus events.
