ONU to host sixth annual mock trial competition
Ohio Northern University’s mock trial program will host the sixth annual Polar Bear Invitational Mock Trial Tournament from Jan. 14-15.

Third District Court of Appeals to hold court at ONU
The Ohio Third District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two cases in the Moot Court Room of Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 9 a.m.

Activist and Olympic standout to commemorate MLK Day
To commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Ohio Northern University, Dr. John Carlos, civil rights activist and former Olympic standout, will speak in ONU’s English Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m.

Sebok Lecture in Pharmacy, Jan. 20

Thomas E. Menighan, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), will headline the 2012 Sebok Pharmacy Lecture.

College of Pharmacy launches genome blog
The Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University is embarking on a significant educational and scientific journey to keep students and the pharmacy profession on the leading edge of medical advances by focusing on pharmacogenomics education.

Music classes for families
Vicki Mills, BA '88, a licensed Musikgarten teacher, will offer weekly music classes for families and their children beginning Jan. 28, 2012, and continuing through the end of May. Classes will be held on Thursdays and Saturdays in room 313 of Presser Hall on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

Spotts Lecture: ‘Engineering Medical Miracles at Mayo Clinic’
Kevin E. Bennet, chairman of the Division of Engineering, assistant professor of neurologic surgery, and co-director of the Neural Engineering Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., will be the featured speaker for the Ohio Northern University Spotts Lecture in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.

Chemistry Teacher Workshop set
ONU's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will host a five-day workshop for high school chemistry teachers in June.

Gerber’s book reviewed by Harvard Law Review
“A Distinct Judicial Power: The Origins of an Independent Judiciary, 1606-1787,” by ONU law professor Scott Douglas Gerber, is reviewed in the January, 2012, issue of the Harvard Law Review. The review says, “Gerber concludes that judicial independence paved the way for judicial review and that this history remains relevant today as a counterweight to theories of popular constitutionalism and the protection of individual rights.”

Grant workshops offered
Two workshops related to grants, one focusing on the Community of Scholars, the database of funding opportunities, and a second on budget preparation, are scheduled for next week. 

Article chosen for anniversary issue

Dr. Robert E. Kleine III, associate professor of marketing, is co-author of an article chosen to be part of a virtual special 20th anniversary issue of the Journal of Consumer Psychology. The article, “Mundane Consumption and the Self: A Social-Identity Perspective,” was first published by the journal in 1993.
